What do we do?
Under harsh conditions, maintenance-free, long-lasting oil seals must protect moving bearings while preventing leakage of oil and grease necessary for bearing lubrication and cooling. This is why the importance and need for steel-sided oil seals are steadily increasing.
Şahin L/T (Loftym) seal group is manufactured from two wear-resistant alloy steels. They are hardened to 60 HRC and have ground ends. They are lapped, ultrasonically cleaned, and mounted onto the steel. This provides a sealing function.
L/T seal groups vary depending on the temperature. Nitrile rubber is used for operating temperatures between 40 and 120°C, silicone rubber between 60 and 180°C, and Viton rubber between 30 and 250°C.
The most important factor affecting L/T seals is the loss of surface properties in the steel. Additionally, the rubber group loses its flexibility and sealing properties when submerged in oil for extended periods.
During repair and overhaul, when the seals are opened, new sets of seals are used to replace the old ones.
